Changing on the fly

D and I are big Formula 1 fans.  One of the more exciting aspects to the races occur during tire changes and (until this season) refuelling.  It’s incredible, really, how quickly a pit crew can work.  It takes planning, preparation, and flexibility for a team to be successful.

For me and D, it takes planning, preparation, and a bottle of rosé to be successful!

We had originally planned a mini road trip on Saturday to Ikea in Toulon.  D had rented a car so that we would have some wheels at our disposition when K-Ray arrives tomorrow.  We were to pick up the car on Wednesday afternoon and return it on Saturday.

On Sunday, plans changed.  Without warning!

After a late lunch — apéro at 3 pm and lunch at 3:30 pm, including said bottle of rosé — and a digestif of Appleton Estate Reserve, we decided that our initial plan made less sense than our revised plan.  Now, we pick up the car today — we’ll leave here in approximately 30 mins — and head to Toulon this afternoon.  We have our Ikea shopping list ready and we’re ready for the 1.5 hour drive west.

(A word about the Ikea experience so far.  It turns out that you can print your shopping list based on where to find particular items in the store.  This is totally news to me!  If it’s not news to you don’t tell me.  I’m happy in my little Ikea bubble right now.)

The second part of our plan involves assembling everything tonight.  Our goal is to have things in place by tomorrow afternoon before we pick K-Ray up from the airport.

Are we dreaming?  Perhaps, but somehow I think we’ll make it!

Sending you lots of good vibes for your Ikea “experience”! We did just about the same thing…at the same place.. Bought ALL of our furniture (save the sofa) from the Ikea in Toulon when we moved from Rome. If we didn’t break up during the “construction phase”, I knew it was true love 🙂 Good luck & you’ll be feel very accomplished when it’s over…& imagine celebrate with some much-needed Rose!

HUGE sense of accomplishment! And yes, there’s a bottle of rose with our names on it!

A bit late reading here Tanya, so how did it go? Are you settled now?

Oh yes, things are lovely here. The boxes are gone, the shelves are up. There are still things to do but all is good! Thanks for asking!
