Mountainous High in Innsbruck

I don’t know much about Austria beyond wiener schnitzel and The Sound of Music. And because I missed out on an earlier trip to Vienna I figured that the second time would be the charm. This time we were headed to Innsbruck, capital of the Tyrol state in the western part of the country.

I learned on our flight from London that Innsbruck sits at the bottom of a valley with mountain ranges surrounding the city. I learned this from the pilot who added that sometimes they have to abort the landing due to high winds. I learned afterwards that aborted landings are common at Innsbruck’s airport due to the winds and the fact that the runway is quite short.

Snow capped mountains on a backdrop of blue sky takes my breath away, at least the little breath I had after our landing. With my camera at the ready I was keen to get as many shots as I could. Here is a sample.

It wasn’t just mountains and snow that made this trip successful. First, I met my colleagues from the UK and Germany. (It was a work trip.) Second, and perhaps the important part, I ate really well.

Stay tuned for more photos from Innsbruck. Auf wiedersehen!

It was really beautiful. Unfortunately, it was cloudy in Austria, Liechtenstein and Switzerland so the view was less that stellar. During our stay in Innsbruck, however, we couldn’t stop ooing and aahing over the mountain views.

Innsbruck is a beautiful little city. I couldn’t get enough of the mountain views. It’s definitely worth a re-visit.
