Spring fling in St Paul de Vence

Spring has taken her time to settle in here in Nice. Despite the psychotic periods of grey-then blue-then grey skies, I have been working hard at maintaining my sanity. D and I are working on a huge renovation project — we bought our first apartment in January — and most of my free time is spent removing old wallpaper.

Recently, I was spared wallpaper removal duty when friends decided to take a mini break on the Côte d’Azur. Their timing couldn’t have been better as the Riviera was blessed with a spell of sunshine. Plus, it gave me and D a break from reno duty. A road trip to St Paul de Vence was the result.

This was my second time to the medieval town of St Paul. The town is famous for its art museums and galleries and I have to tell you that I was seriously tempted to blow some cash on a Chagall original. And I know D was tempted too.

We strolled the cobble stone pedestrian streets, peering into galleries and shops, ooh-ing over sculptures and debating whether to indulge in some ice cream. Despite the sunshine and blue skies it was a little too cool for ice cream and Mother Nature soon unveil a few grey clouds.

After a drink at Café de la Place, where games of boules were still underway, we headed south to Nice to freshen up before dinner.

We’re sure Mother Nature will soon take pity on us and send more sunshine-filled days our way. Until then, D and I will continue our renovation project with plans on finishing before summer starts…or my sanity departs!

Forget Chagall. Support living artists…there is a lot of living breathing talent here on the Coast. Also put a “lock down” on your sanity…don’t let it leave. The Sun is coming back.

Thank you! I will have to check out Esther Morisse in person. I like the aesthetic; the work appeals to me.
