You can reach me by mail

D and I have moved in.

We arrived on Monday morning to meet with the real estate agent  to go through the état de lieu.  There are a few things that aren’t perfect but the apartment is great.  The kitchen update is wonderful.  We have brand new appliances — dishwasher, fridge, hot plate, oven, washer — and a new sink too.  The counters were redone.  The best part, for me at least, is the 1970’s tile on the wall.  It’s totally retro and suits the apartment.  (I will post photos once we’ve figured out what to do with the massive amount of cardboard currently in our entry hallway.)

D and I spent most of yesterday and today cleaning and shopping.  As we’re still waiting for our furniture — yes, you read correctly — we had to make a few purchases.  We needed certain staples: coffee, milk, sugar, bread, cheese, wine, and (of course) champagne.

We’re slowly getting to know the city and have found a few places that we may call our own.

1. We found a bakery/pastry shop.  It’s 340 m away from home and I’m glad that I have to walk there.  If the bread we’ve had is any indication I’d be in big trouble if I didn’t have the walk as exercise.

2.  Downtown Nice is a 1.4 km walk from home.

3.  The nearest grocery store, Carrefour, is a 15 min walk from home.

4.  Breakfast, lunch, and dinner on the terrace is fun…although we’re currently retraining the neighbourhood pigeons.  Trust me, you can retrain pigeons!

5.  The Promenade des Anglais and the beach are less than 1.5 km away from home.  Even closer is Vieux Nice.

So yes, we’re making progress and things are moving if not at the pace that we’d choose.  I have no complaints as life is good, the sun is shining, and it’s almost time for an apéro!

      Thanks Piglet!
I’ve been a little behind in updating and replying. Things are going well. I will have some photos soon…once we dig ourselves out of cardboard boxes. Round 2 starts on Monday!!!
